Local Brooklyn Community Theater Workshop Takes Gospel Play to the Kumble Theater of the Performing Arts at Long Island University for a Musical Produ

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) October 18, 2006 -- PDM Performing Arts Corporation (formerly known as The Pershay Dance Ministry Corporation) decided to take its play production out of the church and onto the stage at the Kumble Theater of the Performing Arts in Brooklyn, NY. The PDM community workshop theater raised funds to rent the beautifully spacious Kumble Theater in downtown Brooklyn across the street from the world famous Junior’s restaurant. The Kumble Theater is a dynamic, state-of-the art performance venue serving one of the most diverse campuses and communities in the country. Trevi Pershay the CEO/founder of the PDM Performing Arts program, decided that she wanted her youth and adults to have a real life experience by performing on an off-Broadway stage. Ms. Pershay wanted to reach her audience who does not go to church and decided to let the church come to them.

PDM is a Brooklyn-based Production Company that was founded by Trevi Pershay, who had developed workshops at the Van Dyke Community Center in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Pershay's programs not only teach drama to youth and adults, they also offer a full dance program (hip-hop, liturgical, theatric dance, flag dancing to youth ages 8–20) and is currently working on youth leadership and educational workshops. Ms. Pershay's plays are well known throughout the community of Brooklyn for their heart-wrenching plays that have repeatedly left their audiences in tears and ideas of hope. Mrs. Pershay play Tale of 2 Spirit – Power vs. Position have been aired in Bahamas, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Southern Jersey and Washington DC via satellite (Light Up The World Network Productions). Although her plays are inspirational pieces, they relate and deal with real life issues that her audience can relate to. Mrs. Pershay has written and produced several plays in the last two years and has not stopped since. She has hits like: Christian Scrooge, Drama High, Love Don’t Live Here No Mo, Tale of 2 Sprits Power vs. Position and her latest productions The Journey of A Blackman – R U Your Brother’s Keeper. With all of these successful plays under her belt, Mrs. Pershay has been touted as being the female version of Tyler Perry. Mrs. Pershay is very modest about how she takes all of the compliments she receives, about her ability to bring real issues and real drama to the stage, and says most of what her writing comes from her upbringing in the church and from childhood experiences.

The Play:
Journey of a Blackman is a play based upon a family of brothers who experience the death of their beloved mother, who was the first female Pastor in the family. Her death leaves the family shattered and yet they must keep the dream alive of running the church. The eldest son must oversee the church while dealing with baby mama’s drama, the middle son is sleeping with half of the women in the church and the youngest son is battling with submitting to the street or Will of God. These brothers have experience drugs, death, violence, rage, betrayal and pain. Now they have to face the return of their absence father of 15 years and emotions are running high. This family of brothers must choose their destiny and heal as a family this is where their journey begins.

Trevi’s Biography
Ms. Pershay was reared in East New York section of Brooklyn (Louis H. Pink Houses), and that is why her programs are operated in Brooklyn, to give back to the community she grew up in. Ms. Pershay is an upcoming author, play writer, director, drama coach, dance teacher, upcoming evangelist, missionary, full time working woman, mother of 2 teenagers, married 21 years, community activist for youth and volunteers at church as President of the Career Development program (True Worship Church) to help adults obtain computer skills for job readiness.
