New Screening of Pre-Katrina Music Video/Time Capsule of Ninth Ward

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 4, 2007 -- On August 5, the New Vision Cinema Series will screen a rare Pre-Katrina view of NOLA's historic Ninth Ward in "Intro," a concept music video by The Imprints, an arts and performance collaborative. "Intro" will be shown at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist's Coalition (BWAC) at 499 Van Brunt St. Brooklyn, NY at approximately 2:00 p.m. on August 5. Admission is free.

Built around the New Orleans band, the Morning 40 Federation, and filmed six months before Katrina, "Intro" was planned as an affectionate welcome into the color, personalities and music of the Ninth Ward/Bywater neighborhood, a gritty area of pastel colored Creole cottages and shotgun house-lined streets. Katrina and its aftermath have since recast 'Intro" as a time capsule, a tribute, and a memorial.

"As we near the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we should remember that devastation still remains," said Bill Poznanski, writer/director of the video, and Artistic Director of The Imprints, a NYC/NOLA performance arts collective. "It's moving for us to see 'Intro" now because some of the people and places in it aren't around anymore. It's become a tribute to the spirit of the Ninth Ward and New Orleans that we hope will inspire New Yorkers to support NOLA's rebirth."

"Intro" presents a slice of NOLA never seen before and in some cases never to be seen again: Dr. Bob (who creates iconic "Be Nice or Leave" signs); Okra The Fruit Man (whose huckster voice opens the video); the late Mr. P, the "Obi-Wan" of the Bywater; Markey's Bar; the Cane Rum Distillery; the Keep it Real Barber Shop and its late owner, Clifton, and more. The video climaxes with a second-line parade up Lesseps St. with the legendary Treme Brass Band, and the famous Pussyfooters Drill Team?and, of course, the Morning 40 Federation.

Honors bestowed upon "Intro" include "the Best of New Orleans" by Gambit Magazine; in January, the No Exit Music Video Competition named it among the top 25 in the world and Bill Poznanski was a finalist for "Best Director." CNN has featured "Intro" clips in its news reporting. "Intro" has been screened at the Coney Island Film Festival, the Invisible Film Festival in New York City and the Hell on Reels Film Festival in Queens, NY. Most recently, "Intro" became the only American music video selected for screening at the U.K.'s biggest independent film competition, the Portobello Film Festival in London August 15. The video has been acknowledged on numerous online music and video websites.

"Intro" was directed by Bill Poznanski a.k.a. Bill Imprint, artistic director of The Imprints, a New York City/East Village based performance art group, now in their 27th year. The Imprints are dedicated to the cultural renewal of New Orleans.

Art, Music and Literature Based Communities
What drives people? Some may say inspiration, our ambitions and needs; this is not very far from saying that people are driven by the inspiration provided by art and music as well as by the need to quench our literary thirst. For most people reading a book, watching a movie or listening to their favorite music isn't enough of an experience, the most important part is to interact and get validation from people with the same interests about our point of views and opinions.
