Dance Music Festival Explodes Thanks To Email Discussion Lists

Montauk, NY (PRWeb) February 19, 2007 -- Originally planned as a weekend fundraising party to provide a diversion from the boredom of Long Island and New York City winters, the Burning Beach Ball has blossomed into a ground breaking music festival. The International DJ Guild, Inc. announced plans in early December to book a few rooms at the Montauk Yacht Club at Long Island's eastern tip and posted an interest inquiry to music community mailing lists in the New York area. Nearly 400 responses, many for multiple attendees, came within 36 hours of the inquiry. In late December room sales were announced and registrations, with full prepayment, came so rapidly that the bulk of the hotel sold out in four days.

As it now stands, BBB, scheduled to run from March 9th at 4pm until March 11th at 11am, is expected to entertain roughly 1000 music fans with a wide variety of formats on 5 stages running virtually around the clock for 2 days. Stages are to be sponsored by various local, regional and national business.

Among the long list of performers are: Cesium 137, Matrix, Infidels, Sea Monster, Matrix, Monica's Kneepads, Graveyard School, Crutch Lovely, Creamsicles, Haale, Philadelphia Experiment, San Francisco Glitch Mob featuting Kraddy and OoaH, Samira, DJ Connie, Science vs Nature, Sub Swara featuring Haj, Druvah and Sunder.

According to Mike Rura, president of the IDJG, room registrations have come from all over the country with a large amount coming from unlikely areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Boston. "We were really surprised by the response to the event, much of which came before we began announcing the performers", says Rura. "It's likely that the appeal of Montauk in winter and the outstanding reputation of the Montauk Yacht Club as a spa facility and luxury hotel aided sales".

The International DJ Guild formed in 2005 after a group of DJs from around the country and abroad began discussing their goals and aspirations on tribe.net, an internet discussion group. Within the year, Rura, who performs under the moniker Mic Rage, and other DJs had drafted a mission statement, set up an online website and filed for incorporation. In late 2006 they were incorporated as a not-for-profit business league. International membership in the organization continues to grow steadily with approximately 100 DJs at this time. The Burning Beach Ball was conceived as the the first step to raising operating capital while promoting it's members.

The festival is co-promoted by Kostume Kult, a well known Burning Man camp, credited with giving away a full metric ton of costumes at last year's event in the Nevada desert. The Burning Beach Ball is billed as a 'Dance Music and Freaky Fashion Festival' and is said to have a 'twisted' nautical theme with good natured fun being poked at the rich and famous. Kostume Kult and has come to play a major role in the advancement of 'participatory culture/no spectator' events around NYC.
The Action Arts League and the Costume Cultural Society which are affiliated with the group are actively working with the City of New York to promote various activities and children's programs throughout the coming year.

Sponsors include: Crystal Clear Disc & Tape, Good Time Condoms, Star 69 Records, Satellite Records, Top DJ Gear. Sponsorships are still being offered on a limited basis.

Changing The Way We Listen To Music With The MP3 Music Player
Not so very long ago most of us who are old enough to remember probably had a collection of vinyl albums that reflected our wide taste in music. Such technology was all we knew and, with the help of a record player, we could enjoy our songs without having to wait for them to come on the radio. Today, technology is so different that it barely resembles its former self. Music lovers of today carry around portable devices that store all of their favorite songs in a piece of equipment that is barely larger than our thumbs. The MP3 music player technology initially appeared in the mid-1980s but we would not see the player in its present state until the late 1990s ? 1999 to be exact. But when it made its appearance it would change the world of mu...
